Mission, Values, Purpose

The Courts Matter to Maine Coalition ensures that Maine people understand the powerful effect of state and federal courts (also known as the judiciary) on their daily lives. We advocate for a judiciary that reflects the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of the people it serves.

Our Values:

We believe the judiciary should be fair, just, independent, qualified, and representative of our communities.

Our Purpose:

We bring organizations and people together to inform Maine people about the importance of fair and just state and federal judiciaries.

We support the nomination of people to state and federal courts who are fair, independent, qualified, and representative of our communities. We’re working to make the federal courts work for all of us - not just the rich and powerful.

Leadership & Structure:

Courts Matter to Maine is led by the Maine Women’s Lobby with support from Coalition members, including Maine Conservation Voters. We work to educate coalition member organizations and the public about state and federal courts. Members may sign on to specific statements or efforts as individual organizations. For more information about our members and how to become a member, check out our Membership page.
